Course Overview

The AIM of this web site is to provide SHORT VIDEO EXPLANATIONS of each concept that students can watch.

Maths is about the perspective you take, you can view mathematical patterns from many different perspectives - see this great talk about looking at the fraction 4/3 from different perspectives - click here.

You also need to have the right attitude - watch this 8min motivational video

A good introductory activity - How to Survive Survivor?

This subject has been designed to complement General Mathematics Methods Units 1 & 2 in providing appropriate prerequisite material for students who wish to study either Mathematical Methods Units 3 & 4 or Specialist Mathematics Units 3 & 4.

The areas of study are:

1. Algebra where students are able to build on skills learnt in previous years and then apply these to different real scenarios.

2. Functions & Graphs, which includes activities such as modelling real life data to investigate the relationship that exists between the two variables.

3. Rates of Change and Calculus, which will involve solving problems such as finding the maximum volume of a closed box with a set amount of cardboard.

4. Probability and Statistics where students conduct simulations of different situations and analyse the outcomes.
